Today’s Focus: Mastering the Door Routine 🐕‍🦺🚪

Tools Needed:

Difficulty Level: Easy
Duration: 5-10 minutes per session

What We Are Focusing On: Leading the walk and setting the mood

Let’s Get Started!

Prepare at the Door:

  • Have your dog sit calmly before you open the door.
  • Keep the door closed until your dog is in a calm position.

Open the Door:

  • Open the door slowly while your dog remains seated. If they try to rush, close the door and start again.

Reward Calm Behavior:

  • Once your dog stays calm and seated, reward them with a treat.
  • Give them a command like “let’s go” before stepping out the door.

Lead the Way:

  • Open the door fully and step outside first, guiding your dog to follow calmly with the dog leash of your choice.

Why It Matters:

  • Better Control: Using a dog leash with traffic handle or a dog leash double handle ensures your dog doesn’t rush out, helping you maintain control from the start.
  • Setting the Mood: If your dog is calm before the walk, your walks will be more relaxed. Letting them rush out can set a chaotic tone for the walk.
  • Pack Leader Role: Reinforces your role as the leader, setting clear expectations and creating a more harmonious walking experience.

Dog training should be fun, not frustrating!

P.S.: Our padded dog leash and dog leash with traffic handle are my go-to for everyday dog walks. The dog leash handle and added traffic handle ensure I maintain control when needed, while the hands free dog leash with traffic handle option provides freedom and security. It’s the perfect companion for both casual strolls and more active outings!

Sturdy, Durable, Best Buckles

"We LOVE our wildside dog harness. We have a 55lb dog (wears size large) and we live an active lifestyle. The buckles are study and the front buckle has a lock function so we don't worry about it coming undone. The material is super breathable and you can throw it in the washer when it gets dirty. We have washed multiple times and the color is still perfect. Candi is also very responsive and cares about her customers. We recommend this brand to all of our large breed and outdoorsy friends." - Hanna

Great Harness for My Reactive Dog

"I really enjoy this harness. The handle is really comfortable, and works great when I need to get a more secure grip on my reactive dog when we walk towards other dogs on walks. It fits similarly to our previous harness (Ruffwear Front Range), but I think it is actually even better quality than that one. I also prefer that there is the additional clip on the neck strap, so I don’t have to put my dogs head through the hole in the harness as my dog always hated taking that one off and on because of it (my main issue with our previous Ruffwear). " - Gina

Amazing Products and Great Customer Relations
I have nothing but great things to say. The harness fit both dogs really well and it is hard to find stuff that works well for my odd shaped “hippopotamus” pit bull. - Audrey

With the right harness, walks can be enjoyable and safe for both you and your dog. Whether you opt for a back-clip, front-clip, or dual-clip harness, prioritize fit and functionality to enhance your daily walks together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which harness type is best for my dog's pulling behavior?

Front-clip harnesses are ideal for dogs that pull, as they redirect the dog's attention towards the owner, promoting better leash manners. Do remember that a front clip harness will not magically fix the pulling behavior. Consistent training will as the harness will be part of your training tools.

How do I ensure a proper fit for my dog's harness?

Adjust the harness snugly but comfortably around your dog's body. Check for any signs of discomfort or chafing during use. You can download the Harness Measurement Guide Here: Download Guide

Can a back-clip harness help with leash training?

Back-clip harnesses are better suited for dogs already trained to walk politely on a leash and are less likely to pull.

What are the benefits of a dual-clip harness?

Dual-clip harnesses offer flexibility, allowing owners to use either the front or back attachment depending on the walking conditions.
